National Assembly of Armenia has amended the Law on payments and security provision to the presidents of Armenia in the second reading on March 4. In addition, the Parliament passed the first reading of amendments to the Law on social guarantees to the persons occupying government posts.
Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia Artyom Asatryan says the amendments look to liquidate the age limit of 70 years for the former presidents to exercise their rights to manage their offices, the rights to housing etc. Now, the former presidents will enjoy their official privileges for life, including will receive a life pension in the amount of 70% of the incumbent president's salary.
On January 9, the first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan celebrated his 70th birthday anniversary. He was president of Armenia in 1991-1998. The second president was Robert Kocharyan (1998-2008). In 2008, Serzh Sargsyan was elected the president.
