Armenian parliamentarian Tigran Urikhanyan has left the Prosperous Armenia Party. The parliamentarian has disseminated a statement wherein he points at the February events that "changed much in the country, shattered the people's faith in quality reforms in the country."
Nevertheless, Urikhanyan believes that a different tactics and a new format of activity will change the situation in the country. "Armenia remains deep in the crisis, with the heavy social and economic situation, unprecedented migration scale, economic monopolies, inefficient state government, indifference of the authorities to the everyday problems of their citizens - all these problems will remain unresolved, unless the fight is continued," the parliamentarian said.
Urikhanyan believes it inexpedient remaining at the PAP after the latest developments in the country. He has accepted the proposals of his supporters and decided to set up a Civil Headquarters to continue the fight. Simultaneously, Urikhanyan said, he is ready to cooperate with the PAP to achieve the common goals.
PAP faced misfortunes following the dispute of its leader Gagik Tsarukyan and President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and the Party's retreat from its radical positions. Prosperous Armenia Party cancelled the rally set for February 20 under pressure of the authorities. Before that, several parliamentarians - mainly big businessmen - left the Party. Tsarukyan left the Party and the political field on March 5. Naira Zohrabyan came to replace him on the post of the PAP leader.
