VivaCell-MTS has always kept borderland communities at the center of its attention. The press office of VivaCell-MTS has told ArmInfo that this time the company has refurbished the computer class of Vahan secondary school with 10 computers. It will help to integrate modern technologies into the teaching process. Owing to VivaCell-MTS support, two years ago high-speed internet connection and a free 3G Wi-Fi router were provided to the school. 155 pupils of Vahan School have become beneficiaries of the implemented project.
Vahan village of Gegharkunik region shares a 28-km-long border with Azerbaijan. Living in a borderland area, the locals are forced to be on the alert and live exposed to the foe's attention as true border guards. Since 2008, VivaCell-MTS has been supporting Vahan community that has a truly heroic history. The first project implemented by the Company was the construction of a gas pipeline.
Armenia's leading telecommunications operator keeps to the principle of combining business interest and responsibility. In the last two years VivaCell-MTS, in cooperation with the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) implemented two more projects in Vahan, using state-of-the-art technologies. The initiatives included installation of a LED lighting system that provides outdoor lighting along a 1,100 meter-area of the village. The environmentally friendly and energy-efficient LED lights also reduce energy costs up to 80%. In the frames of the implemented initiatives promoting nature conservation, energy efficiency and community development, a solar water heating system has been installed in the kindergarten of Vahan community ensuring up to 60% saving on gas consumption and heating costs. The system of values based on the care for the society adopted at VivaCell-MTS has grown into a lifestyle for the Company's employees. The AMD 2 million personal donations of the Accounting and Finance Department employees were used to build a toilet in the village school building.
VivaCell-MTS will continue projects aimed at the development of borderland Vahan village also in 2016.
Propelling personal volunteering initiatives as an expression of individual responsibility, Ralph Yirikian has made a donation from his personal funds to provide 10 computers also to the secondary school of Chkalov village, Lori region.
