2015 թվականը շատ կարևոր տարի կլինի հայ-թուրքական հարաբերություններում: Թուրքիան Հայաստանի հետ հարաբերությունները կարգավորելու հնարավորություն կունենա: Այդպիսի կարծիք է հայտնել Հայաստանում ԱՄՆ դեսպան Ջոն Հեֆերնը Today's Zaman-ին հարցազրույցում:

ՙՀուսով եմ, որ Թուրքիան և Հայաստանը 2015 թվականը կառուցողական գործընթացի մաս դարձնելու միջոց կգտնեն: Դա ժողովուրդներին մերձեցնելու հնարավորություն կդառնա: 2015 թվականը պետք է փոխշահավետ լինի երկու երկրների համար՚,- նշել է Հեֆերնը`ավելացնելով, որ Հայաստանը 2015 թ. սպասման մեջ է գտնվում:

Ըստ որում, նա ընդգծել է, որ Հայաստանի և Թուրքիայի միջև հարաբերությունները կարևոր են ոչ միայն երկու երկրների, այլ նաև ԱՄՆ-ի համար: Հեֆերնը երկու երկրների առաջարկել է հարաբերությունների կարգավորման համար երեք ուղղություն իրականացնել. առաջինը`արձանագրությունների վավերացում և իրականացում, ինչը կարևոր և առաջնահերթ քայլն է: Երկրորդ`տնտեսական միջոցներ, այդ թվում`Կարսի և Գյումրիի միջև երկաթուղու բացում: Հեֆերն ընդգծել է երկաթուղու բացման կարևորությունը, որը հզոր խթան կհաղորդի առևտրին և զբոսաշրջությանը, ըստ որում`ավելացրել է, որ երկաթուղու բացումը չի ենթադրում սահմանի լիակատար բացում: Երրորդը`երկու երկրների ժողովուրդների միջև հարաբերությունների կարգավորումն է:  

Անդրադառնալով հայ-ադրբեջանական սահմանին լարվածության սրմանը`Հեֆերն ընդգծել է, որ ղարաբաղյան հակամարտությունը լուրջ խնդիր է Հայաստանի և Ադրբեջանի միջև: Իսկ հայ-ադրբեջանական սահմանին տեղի ունեցած վերջին իրադարձությունները վկայում են, որ ստատուս-քվոն ընդունելի չէ երկու կողմերից ոչ մեկի համար: Նա ընդգծել է, որ ԱՄՆ-ը ընդունելի է համարում հակամարտության կարգավորման միմիայն դիվանագիտական մեթոդը:

Նշենք, որ հունիսի 4-ին ադրբեջանական զինված ուժերը հայկական դիրքերը ներթափանցելու փորձեր են ձեռնարկել: Հայ-ադրբեջանական սահմանին դիվերսիաների հետևանքով ապանվել է 25 ադրբեջանցի, հայկական կողմից կա չորս զոհ:
