The RA Ministry of Emergency Situations hosted the joint press conference of the Minister of Emergency Situations of Armenia Armen Yeritsyan and VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, the press service of VivaCell- MTS has told ArmInfo.
The press conference was dedicated to the opening of the backup server center for the government of RA. The creation of the server center kicked off a year ago with a memorandum of understanding signed between the partnering organizations on August 14, 2013. According to the agreement, VivaCell-MTS allotted the Ministry of Emergency Situations with AMD 50 million to cover the creation of the center, as well as the purchase of property, equipment and technical means.
"Information security is one of the greatest challenges of the modern world. Keeping that in mind as well as taking the challenges facing Armenia into account, the modernization of information systems and the provision of the up-to-date conditions for the information safety have no alternatives. Armenia's leading telecommunications operator acknowledges the importance of long-term investments in that process. The creation of the backup server center is aimed at increasing the viability of Armenia's system of state governance in emergency situations," said VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian.
The United Nations Development Program in Armenia provided AMD 12.4 million for the implementation of the program.
In 2013 the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations started the works on setting up a backup server center (BSC) designed for providing timely organization of civil protection emergency activities in peacetime and civil defense management in wartime; for providing smooth and reliable management and reliable maintenance; for keeping the information secure and using it in a safe and efficient way; as well as for centralizing the backup information systems of state offices and facilitating their operation. In the administrative building of the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations, that was designed and constructed according to advanced security and seismic resistance requirements, special offices and complementary areas were separated and furnished appropriate to international standards and security guidelines. The center was facilitated with modern infrastructure. To ensure the safe operation of the backup server center, the system was equipped with a 150 kW/h reserve power supply generator, uninterruptable power supply (UPS) systems, a modern cooling system, automatic alarm and firefighting systems, a video surveillance system, an climate control system (humidity, smoke, temperature, dust, etc.), as well as a separate grounding system and an electronic control system for entry/foreign visa.
