ArmINfo-Turan. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can be resolved only in the framework of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. As soon as the occupied territories are given back, the status of Nagorno-Karabakh may be finalized on the basis of South Tyrol's experience, Farhad Mamedov, Director of the Strategic Research Center
of the Azeri President, said during a conference on ethnic minorities in Europe.
Turan quotes Mamedov as saying that it may take the parties quite a while to develop the legal status of Nagorno-Karabakh as this implies peaceful co-existence of the Azeri and Armenian communities and efforts to ensure the region's economic, social and cultural development.
"Azerbaijan can create the necessary conditions provided that the Armenians give up their idea to become independent," Mamedov said.
German-speaking South Tyrol is an autonomy within Italy. It has a parliament, where 70% of members are Germans, 25% Italians and 5% Ladins, and a president, elected each 2.5 years by rotation from either Italian or German communities.
