"The Republic of Azerbaijan awaits unambiguous and firm actions by the European Union to ensure that the resolutions of the UN Security Council on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are strictly complied with and implemented," Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in its statement on Riga summit declaration, according to Trend.
On May 22, a scandal broke out at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga, as Azerbaijan refused to sign a joint declaration, reaffirming the Union's support for each partner country's sovereign rights and freedoms. The point is that Azerbaijan disagreed with the formula related the Karabakh conflict. Azerbaijan's action has disappointed the reps of European countries, moreover, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, the Chairman of the Summit, was so outraged that he announced an unscheduled break. The joint declaration was signed on condition that Azerbaijan will submit its reservation to the document to the EaP.
