The promises of paradise in Armenia "roam" from one constitutional referendum to another, Levon Barseghyan, President of the "Asparez" Journalists' Club, said at a press conference.
Barseghyan pointed out that the constitutional reforms are not even among the top 50 important problems of Armenia. "There were protests against the rise in the electricity and gas tariffs, against Armenia's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, etc. But I do not remember at least two persons holding a rally for the support of constitutional reforms," he said.
The expert pointed out that the promises of paradise in Armenia "roam" from one constitutional referendum to another. He said the tragic events of 1 March 2008 occurred only 2.5 years after the referendum of 2005. On March 1, 2008, the rally was dispersed by means of special devices and 10 people were killed.
Barseghyan stressed that the incumbent authorities of the country came to power due to electoral fraud. "Over the past 7 years, poverty in Armenia rose by 7-8%. Migration has also grown," he added, noting that the authorities should confess their economic failures.
Meanwhile, Vahan Babayan, Spokesman for the Prosperous Armenia Party, takes a positive view of the constitutional reforms. In particular, he pointed out the transition to a 100% proportional system will allow the opposition forces to obtain seats in the Parliament.
The constitutional referendum in Armenia is scheduled for December 6.
