Marat Terterov: Armenia’s long term security will be better served by strengthening economic security, rather than defining national security on the basis of the Tsarist Russian catch-cry “armiya i flot”
The Armenian-Russian strategic partnership will remain the key factor of Armenia's security, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at the Jan 15 enlarged meeting at the Defense Ministry. The heads of legislative, executive and judicial powers, governors and heads of law-enforcement structures
attended the meeting.
"Armenia gives high priority to membership in the CSTO, as it considerably contributed to establishment of this organization and trusts a certain niche in ensuring our national security to the CSTO. We are sure that it is the CSTO that is a real guarantee of our republic's security", he said.
In the meantime, Armenia will continue its close and transparent cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance, trying to borrow its experience in development of the country's armed forces. The president pointed out the activity of Armenian peacekeepers in Afghanistan and Kosovo as a vivid example of close interaction.
