In an interview with Turkish media, Etyen Mahcupyan, ex-advisor to the Turkish Prime Minister, has dropped a hint that the reason of his dismissal was his remarks about the Armenian Genocide.
According to Mahcupyan, his remarks caused the ruling circles' indignation. Nevertheless, the ex-advisor confesses, "I recognize the Armenian Genocide, but if I were the president of Turkey, I would also refuse to qualify the events in early XX century as "genocide", because the head of Turkey is responsible for the country's welfare".
To note, during his term in the advisor's office, Mahcupyan qualified the events in the Ottoman Empire in early XX century as "genocide" twice, which sparked the Turkish authorities' indignation and resulted in Mahcupyan's dismissal.
