President of the Gyumri-based Journalists Club "Asbarez" Levon Barseghyan who was detained overnight has left a note to his son.
According to mass media, a pocket jackknife for 1000 AMD - the reason why he was detained - is depicted on the paper. "Freedom has its Price and I have always paid that Price," the Barseghyan says in the note and asks not to worry about him. "Think of how to prevent clashes between 'Sasna Trser' group and Police," the journalists wrote. "There should be no political prisoners in Armenia. Don't be afraid! Don't back down! Don't cede!" the arrested journalist writes.
It was reported earlier that the journalist was taken to the detention facility in Erebuni district in Yerevan.
Investigative Committee press-office said Levon Barseghyan was detained in Khorenatsi Street at 3:30am on July 27. "The Police searched Barseghyan and found an 18.8sm blade and an 8.5sm jackknife. Examination will be held. On July 27, the Shengavit Department of the Yerevan Police initiated a criminal case and after its comprehensive investigation, the investigation officer adopted a decision to hold a medical forensic examination of Barseghyan," the press office reported.
The standoff in Khorenatsi Street entered day 12 after the armed loyalists of the jailed oppositionist Jirayr Sefilyan seized the Police Patrol Service Regime on July 17 demanding Sefilyan's release and resignation of the president.
