The Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) faction in the parliament convened on March 3. A local Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Time) Daily reports the meeting was extremely tense due to heated disputes over possible appointment of Secretary of the BHK Faction Naira Zohrabyan as the BHK leader. Many in the Party are against her appointment, the paper writes.
The paper writes that several parliamentarians are due to leave the party. In addition, it is widely rumored that Vahe Hovhannisyan may refuse from his seat in the parliament. The paper writes that ex-foreign minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian also thinks to leave the parliament. At the Tuesday meeting, Oskanian was persuaded not to leave. However, the situation will become clear at the March 5 Congress of the Party.
BHK faced misfortunes following the dispute of its leader Gagik Tsarukyan and President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and the Party's retreat from its radical positions. Prosperous Armenia Party cancelled the rally set for February 20 under pressure of the authorities. Before that, several parliamentarians - mainly big businessmen- left the Party.
