Armenia might become a corridor between the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea, Mohammad Raiesi, the Iranian ambassador to Armenia, said during the July 24 press conference in Yerevan.
The ambassador believes that Tehran's relations with its neighbours, including Yerevan, will improve followed by the lifting of the sanctions. He has mentioned projects to be implemented together with Armenia, particularly mentioning the construction of the hydropower plant on Araqs river, the North-South corridor.
The ambassador also touched upon the contraction of a joint oil-processing plant. He noted that Iran is willing to take up the role of the oil supplier. However, there is a need for a big investor to carry out this project. Raiesi also spoke of the Armenia-Iran railway construction. He noted that the project requires an investor who would provide 3.2 bln USD.
The diplomat also mentioned the gas shipment to Europe through Armenia. However, the project requires infrastructures. The ambassador expressed hope Armenia-Iranian economic relations will soon be on the same high level as the political ties.
