Iranian Ambassador to Baku Mohsen Pakayeen said in an interview with IRNA that his country began to pay more attention to the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The Iranian ambassador underlined that Iran is ready to help resolve the dispute, and said, "The prevailing situation in Karabakh is not acceptable and we want a fair solution to the dispute."
Iran is not interested in military conflict near its borders. Neither it is interested in possible deployment of the NATO peacekeepers in the region. Experts say Iran's stand on the Karabakh issue comes to two factors: First, Iran sees no alternative to the peaceful settlement of the conflict and the peace talks. Second, Iran thinks is more expedient for the countries in the region to involve into the peace process rather than foreign actors.
