Armenia stands for Artsakh's people right to determine its own future as it is exercised in the whole world, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan stated in an interview to Arab TV channel "Al Mayadeen".
According to him the people of Artsakh should themselves decide what status they want to have, whether they want to have an independent state or join Armenia. "For me the most important thing is to ensure safety of the NKR population so that they have an opportunity to live on their historic homeland as long as the world exists. And this security can be ensured only outside Azerbaijan's borders", he stressed. According to Sargsyan, undoubtedly, if by a nasty trick Artsakh were included in Azerbaijan even for one day no Armenians would remain there. "Most importantly Artsakh can not be part of Azerbaijan", he noted.
The President noted that Armenians have lived in NKR for centuries and Artsakh has never been a part of Azerbaijan and was forcedly annexed to this country by the decision of the Communist Party having nothing in common with it. "By the way the same happened to Nakhijevan where there are no Armenians currently and its historical population was totally exterminated", he noted. In this context Sargsyan stressed that if the whole word and all the main powers consolidated and assured NKR people to live within Azerbaijan Karabakh people would not agree. "One can exterminate them but can not persuade to live within Azerbaijan", Sargsyan stressed.
