Yerevan Mayor promised to punish Sanitek Company, an operator for garbage collection and removal of snow in Armenia's capital for not fulfilling its contract obligations. Yerevan's Mayor Taron Margaryan announced about this today at the first working meeting of this year.
To recall, monthly precipitation norm exceeded in the first days of January in Yerevan, which almost completely paralyzed traffic in the city, while uncleansed streets caused a number of accidents and numerous injuries, which resulted in public discontent. By the Mayor's order relevant employees and equipment of utility services and services of greening of administrative districts were involved in removing snowdrifts. Besides, 350 units of multifunction equipments of private companies were allegedly also involved in the removal of snow.
As the Associate Director of Sanitek Karen Nersisyan informed Armenian mass media, the company day and night worked on the streets of Yerevan removing snow. According to him, in the conditions of heavy snowfall the results of removal were not noticeable. Meanwhile, not only the result of work but the work itself was also not noticeable. In the New Year's snowfall there was no snow-removing machine on the capital's streets on January 1-3.
Information was spread in social media that Sanitek's inactivity was caused by debts, which the municipality had to pay for the previous months. To note, ArmInfo did not manage to contact Sanitek for comments, as there are no contact phone numbers of this company in any directory. Meanwhile, the company won the tender on the garbage collection and snow removal in several administrative districts of Yerevan in 2013. To note, Sanitek is a Lebanon company so they may not have enough experience for removing the snow, as snow is a rare thing in Lebanon, some sharp-witted commentators noted.
