Children's railway renovated in Yerevan on South Caucasus Railway's initiative

The ribbon cutting ceremony of the children's railway took place in Yerevan on August 2. 

Viktor Rebets, Director General of the South Caucasus Railway (SCR) CJSC, said that under the agreement on socio-economic cooperation between the SCR and the Municipality of Yerevan signed in 2011, the work at the children's railway is done in two phases.

The first phase includes renovation and modernization of the station facilities, rolling stock and track facilities. The first phase also includes taking of all the necessary measures to ensure the safe operation of the railway.  A 1.2 km section of the railway is being reconstructed, and the nearby area is being improved. The first phase of the project will be completed by August 5, timed to the Railroaders' Day.

Rebets stressed that the second phase will include renovation of the building of the railway station, but currently the concept of creation of a children's education center is being elaborated. At the center children will familiarize themselves with the peculiarities of railway professions and technologies. 

The children's railway was established in Yerevan on June 9 1937. It has 2 stations (Hayrenik and Pionerakan) and 1 platform (Urakhutyun). There is also a tunnel on the children's railway. The tunnel is 45 meters long.
