The Armenian authorities have always said that it was not an end in itself for them to have the Armenian-Turkish protocols on the agenda of the Armenian Parliament and that if need be, they might withdraw them, Chairman of the Committee on State-Legal Issues of the Armenian Parliament Hovhannes Sahakyan told ArmInfo on Monday.
He said that the Armenian President's decision to withdraw the protocols from the Armenian Parliament was a response to Turkey's consistent policy not to carry them out.
"The protocols have fulfilled their mission: the world has seen that Armenia is ready to improve its relations with Turkey without preliminary conditions, while Turkey has done nothing towards this end," Sahakyan said.
Earlier in the day Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan asked Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Galust Sahakyan to withdraw the Armenian- Turkish protocols from the Parliament's agenda because Turkey has to date shown no political will to carry the protocols out.
The protocols were signed in Zurich on Oct 10 2009.
