Russia's approaches to the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process remain unchangeable, Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said at a press briefing on Nov 12 commenting on the recent media reports in Armenia claiming that the seven regions around Nagorno-Karabakh might be transferred to Azerbaijan. These reports emerged immediately after Sergey Lavrov's visit to Yerevan on November 9.
"I can add nothing to what Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in details in an open news conference in Yerevan," Zakharova said.
"I think, the situation should not be overload. You'd better refer to the original source, the statements of the Russian minister. Everything is available on our website. I can just add that we maintain very close contacts on the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement with our Armenian and Azerbaijani colleagues, and we do nothing that could damage the sides," Zakharova said.
She recommended contacting the Russian Foreign Ministry press-office in case of any questions. Earlier, there were media reports claiming that during his visit to Yerevan on November 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had allegedly urged a return of some territories to Azerbaijan to get Baku's agreement to join the Eurasian Economic Union.
