Provocations on the line of contact with the Armenian Armed Forces will become more frequent as Zakir Hasanov comes to replace Safar Abiyev on the post of Azerbaijan's Defense Minister, says Grigory Ayvazyan, Head of the Assembly of Armenians from Azerbaijan.
Talking to reporters, Thursday, Ayvazyan explained that provocations would be made to ensure at least temporary and imaginary stability inside Azerbaijan.
"Creating an impression of external danger, Ilham Aliyev's regime tries to reduce domestic tensions over the last shameful presidential election," Ayvazyan said. The analysts regrets that Safar Abiyev has been replaced, as the latter had not dared to launch another military aggression against Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh following his shameful defeat under Karvachar during the Karabakh War.
Ayvazyan believes that appointment of the former interior minister Zakir Hasanov as defense minister means that the army may be used to suppress tensions inside that country if necessary.
"Hasanov has big experience in suppressing mass protests against Aliyev's regime," Ayvazyan said, "Safar Abiyev was nominated yet by Heydar Aliyev and was a kind of independent figure, while the new defense minister fully depends in Aliyev junior."
