The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan responded to the Armenia's Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian's statement that Karabakh conflict should be settled exclusively in the frameworks of OSCE Minsk Group and the discussion of this issue in other structures is unacceptable.
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in his interview "distorts" the essence of statements, adopted in Aquila, Miskok, Doville, Los-Kabos and Eniskelen by the presidents of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing states and principles of the Helsinki Final Act, Trend quotes spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev as saying, when commenting on Nalbandian's interview.
The Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan also recalled four UN resolutions adopted in 1994. Hajiyev said that by ignoring the position of the international community and rudely violating the generally accepted norms and principles of international law, Armenia continues efforts aimed at strengthening the current status-quo, insisting on their unreal occupational claims, changing physical, demographic and cultural names in the 'occupied' lands, rejecting the right of hundreds of thousands of forcedly deported Azerbaijanis to return to their native lands. "Armenia bears the full responsibility for the current situation," Hajiyev said.
To note, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in an interview with Aravot (Morning) newspaper emphasized that OSCE MG co-chairs had made five statements on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict - a comprehensive statement on the principles and elements the peace process must be based on. "Armenia's stand totally coincides with the OSCE Minsk Group's stand - other international structures should take no steps that can aggravate the situation in the region. Azerbaijan is trying to move the discussions on the Karabalkh problem to other platforms. However, the only format having the mandate of the international community is the OSCE Minsk Group," he stressed.
