Russian businessman German Sterligov looks to file a lawsuit against Azerbaijan at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Russian TV channel REN TV reports citing the businessman's attorney Arthur Hayrapetov.
According to the source, the lawyer is sure that Sterligov will win the case.
"German Sterligov will be against Azerbaijan at the European Court of Human Rights. He will appeal to ECHR shortly over Azerbaijan's actions against him. The point is that Sterligov was banned from Baku and declared a persona non grata and then a criminal case was initiated against him thus depriving him of the right to protecting himself. It is absurd from the viewpoint of international law. Azerbaijan is a party to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and such actions on its part are inadmissible. We expect a positive solution? I don't think the latter will be prompt. However, we are determined to win. The compensation amount will be announced later," the lawyer said.
Azerbaijan's Attorney General has put Sterligov on Interpol's wanted list accusing him of illegal activity in Nagorny Karabakh. Interpol removed him from the wanted list on August 21.
To note, Sterligov has recently moved to Nagorno-Karabakh with his family, because "there are awesome people and awesome living principles" in Artsakh. He refutes the information that he has fled the Russian justice and that he has any relations with nationalist circles. He says he has been persecuted since his book "From Adam to Putin" was published. To prove that he has no problems with justice, Sterligov has left his family in Karabakh and has gone to Russia for a few days. However, a criminal case had been instituted against him there. A citizen of Israel accuses him of injuriousness.
