An unknown paining by Ivan K. Aivazovsky has been found during
construction activities in the garret of a residential building in Yerevan,
Armenia.
Shipwreck in the
sunset is pained on the not large canvas. Director of Beshtel Dig antique shop
Alexander Potapov told ArmInfo’s correspondent the construction company
contacted international experts for examination of the canvas. After
comprehensive examination with participation of specialists of the State
Tretyakov Gallery, Beshtel Dig experts issued a positive resolution: the canvas
belongs to the great seascape painter (dates to early 1880s) and not to his
students, Potapov said. Where this invaluable finding will be stored – that is
the question.
