The Government of Armenia pays no proper attention to the fish farms of the republic, Artur Atoyan, Head of the Armenian Union of Fish Breeders, said at a press conference on Wednesday.
He said that the Armenian fish breeders can offer sturgeon to Russia and Europe. "Almost no sturgeon is bred in most of the European countries. Armenia's production meets European standards and this will allow starting export deliveries to the European market in the near future", he said.
In the meantime, Atoyan pointed out that the Armenian Government pays no proper attention to the given sector. The Government is closing the artesian wells in Ararat Valley. He expressed his concern over the fact that the Union's attempts to establish relevant cooperation with the Ministry of Nature Protection were in vain.
To recall, in June-August 2013 there were a total of 3314 wells in Ararat Valley. To close 43 of them, the Government provided the Ministry of Nature Protection with 107.5 mln AMD.
The matter concerns the illegal wells of the fish farms in Ararat and Armavir Provinces. The relevant operations were launched in autumn 2013. The fine for inefficient use of water resources has also been increased.
