Armenia's Ombudsman has made a statement, in which he presented his position and proposals related to the events developing in the Armenian capital since the seizure of the building of the Police Patrol Service Regiment by "Daredevils of Sasoun" group.
The statement received by ArmInfo particularly reads that since July 17 the Human Rights Defender has repeatedly made calls on observing tolerance and maintaining peace during the assemblies. The inadmissibility of using force against the police officers and the participants has been stressed. "Any display of violence is subject to condemnation" the statement reads.
Ombudsman's office mentions with regret that despite the voiced calls cases of breach of human rights have been registered, on which the office has been alarmed numerous times. The Ombudsman recalls that inquires have been sent to the relevant authorized bodies related to all the alarms containing infringements of law.
The Ombudsman considers that in the current situation all the authorized state bodies within their power should make every effort to investigate the law infringement cases. "Duties of those policemen suspected or charged of violating human rights should be suspended unless full fact-finding", the statement reads.
"
Each authorized state body should report to the society on the taken events", the statement reads. These reports should be published on regular basis. This approach will be of a great importance for further prevention of similar situations and will ensure society's confidence to the work of law enforcement bodies.
The Ombudsman also applies to the participants of the peaceful assemblies with a call to exclude any display of violence against the police officers. He considers unacceptable dissemination of intolerance in social networks, which leads to violence. "We call for all the sides to refrain from publishing such materials as well as non confirmed data, which may endanger peaceful resolution of the situation" the statement reads.
The Ombudsman also notes that it is beyond his power to ensure the members of the armed group with food.
He calls to take all the measures necessary for ensuring material compensation to the persons and organizations that suffered in this period. The Ombudsman expresses readiness to provide consultations in this issue.
The Ombudsman hails all the efforts aimed at peaceful settlement of the situation and assures that he will continue his own efforts for ensuring full exercise of human rights.
