Kazakhstan, a member state of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will not attend the events commemorating the Armenian Genocide Centennial, Vigen Sargsyan, Coordinator of the Armenian Genocide Centennial Events, said at a press conference in Yerevan on Monday.
He stressed that the President of Kazakhstan cannot visit Armenia, because on April 24 Kazakhstan will be holding its presidential elections. However, other officials of Kazakhstan will not arrive in Armenia either.
As regards Belarus, it will attend the events in Yerevan but it is not known yet at what level the country will show its participation. Earlier the Embassy of Belarus in Armenia told ArmInfo that Minsk will attend the events at a high level. On April 24, over 60 official delegations from various countries will visit the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex. The Presidents of Russia, France, Cyprus and Serbia will arrive in Yerevan, and "the presidents of some other countries will participate in the events to be organized by the local Armenian communities", he said.
Sargsyan said that a number of Turkish news agencies have been accredited to cover the events and Armenia is not going to disturb them. He stressed that Armenia has received their applications for interviewing Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and other high-ranking officials of the country.
To note, diplomatic sources told ArmInfo, Belarus would be represented at the Armenian Genocide commemorations in Yerevan at the level of president too. Joseph Daul, Chairman of the European People's Party and Anne Brasseur, PACE President, are also expected to visit Armenia on April 24. Czech Ambassador Petr Mikyska said that one of the Parliament's Vice- Speakers would visit Armenia in April. Switzerland, that has both recognized and adopted a law that criminalizes the denial of the Armenian Genocide, will show its participation through the Swiss Ambassador to Armenia. British MP John Whittingdale and bishop Richard Chartres are to represent London at the events.
