On November 5, the head of the Commission on Lake Sevan Issues under the President of Armenia, Vladimir Movsesyan, passed away at the age of 81.
In 1990 Movsesyan was elected First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Armenian Communist Party. In 1991 he was deputy minister of agriculture of the USSR. In December 1991 he was appointed head of the Armenian State Department for Refugees. In 1996-1999 Movsesyan served as agriculture minister of Armenia. In 1999 he was appointed advisor to the Armenian Prime Minister. In 2000 Movsesyan was appointed head of the Forest Committee. Over the past few years he headed the Commission on Lake Sevan Issues under the President of Armenia.
