The powers of the mayor of Abovyan have been terminated ahead of time.
Armen Yeritsyan, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations, said at today's session of the Government that the Abovyan mayor's office has been vacant since Karapet Guloyan, the former mayor, was appointed as governor of Kotayk marz of Armenia. So, Guloyan's powers as the mayor of Abovyan have been terminated ahead of time. According to the legislation, the mayoral election is to be held within 40 days. The emergency fund of the Government will allocate 20.266 mln AMD for the election. Armenian media outlets report that the mayoral election in Abovyan will most likely be held on June 7.
To recall, by the April 2 decision of Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, Karapet Guloyan was appointed as governor of Kotayk marz to replace Aram Harutyunyan. Guloyan is the son-in-law of Armenian oligarch, ex-leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan and the son of MP Murad Guloyan, who is also a big Armenian businessman.
Gagik Tsarukyan's assistant Vahagn Gevorgyan and businessman Arthur Harutyunyan (a.k.a. Palach) have already announced their readiness to run for mayor of Abovyan.
