South Caucasus Railway (SCR) Director General Viktor Rebets says safe movement of trains in Armenia has always been a priority for his company. In response to ArmInfo's question at a news conference on September 7, Rebets said the company starts its day with assessment of risks for movement of trains and the measures taken to settle the problems.
He said at the beginning of the company's activity in Armenia, trains came off the tracks 96 times a year. Due to the security and other measures of the company, in 2014 train came off the tracks 9 times. This year, nothing of the kind has happened yet, he said. The Company has repaired more than 400km tracks, this year this figure will grow to 450km. The infrastructure was modernized and the average speed of the trains has grown by 5km/h to 34km/h over the last three years. This exceeds the average European indicators.
CJSC "South Caucasian Railway" is a 100% subsidiary of JSC "Russian Railways" and provides concession management of Armenian railroads. CJSC "Armenian Railways" was referred to the concession management to the company "SCR" according to the Concession Agreement signed on February 13, 2008. The term of the concession management is 30 years with possible extension for another 10 years.
