Artak Apitonyan, newly appointed Ambassador of Armenia to Finland (residence in Stockholm), has handed over his credentials to President of Finland Sauli Niinisto, the Foreign Ministry of Armenia told ArmInfo.
President Niinisto said there are all the preconditions for development and enhancement of the friendly relations of the two countries and peoples.
Ambassador Apitonyan, in turn, said as ambassador of Armenia he would "go the extra mile" to enhance the relations of the two countries in many fields.
The Armenian diplomat informed the president of the latest developments around the Karabakh conflict, particularly, the Wednesday downing of an unarmed helicopter by Azerbaijani forces. The ambassador said Azerbaijan with its provocative actions endangers the fragile stability in the region and undermines the peaceful negotiations, which runs contrary of Azerbaijan's commitments to the international community. President Niinisto expressed concern over the recent upsurge of tension in the region. He said Finland supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group, the tripartite mediating body in the Nagorno Karabakh peace process.
The sides discussed also the Armenian-Finnish bilateral relations, and international and regional issues.
