The status quo in Nagorno Karabakh is inadmissible, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Baku on August 8.
Aliyev said the international community and international organizations recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and support a fair resolution of the conflict in line with the International Law. "I'd like to highlight Russia's role in the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The meeting in Saint Petersburg in June was dedicated to this problem and I thank you for your personal active involvement in the process," the Azerbaijani leader said.
Afterwards, at a trilateral meeting involving Iranian President Hassan Rouhani too, Aliyev said the status quo in the conflict (in Nagorno Karabakh -editor's note) is inadmissible. "The conflict must be resolved in line with the International Law and within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," he said.
A trilateral meeting of the Russian, Iranian and Azerbaijani leaders was held in Baku on August 8. The leaders adopted a declaration. According to Russian media, it is a serious
political document - a kind of road map of cooperation. Next time Putin, Aliyev and Rouhani are expected to meet in Iran at the invitation of the Iranian leader. "The negotiations will continue at the level of the department heads and experts. There is yet much to do, but it is evident that in Baku, Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran have got the necessary impetus for a mutually advantageous cooperation," according to Russia media.
