The tension on the Armenian-Azeri border still exists, however, it should not cause panic, Samvel Saghoyan, Head of Chinari rural community, told journalists on March 27.
Saghoyan pointed out that during the spring farming operations Azeris fire at the Armenian positions. It has turned into a common phenomenon and the population of the borderline villages has got accustomed to it.
Armenian Defense Ministry Spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan said that on March 27 night Azerbaijan fired dozens of shots at the borderline villages of Tavush region. He added that most of the shots were fired at the Armenian frontlines.
In this light, Samvel Saghoyan said that last year the residents of Chinari and the servicemen of the nearest military unit made exemplary dug-out shelters. He added that a defensive wall (2-2.5 high) was built to protect the kindergarten and the school of Chinari from the fire attacks. "The school and the kindergarten have basements that can be dug-out shelters if repaired and equipped with special facilities," he said. Saghoyan added that he has already met with the ICRC representatives, who expressed readiness to provide financial assistance to the village.
Earlier Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said that the relevant working group will shortly present a strategy and a program on dug-out shelters to the Government. He added that exemplary shelters have already been built in Tavush region and the work in this dimension is still going on.
