Open public hearings on the rise of electric power tariffs are underway in Mashtots Park of Yerevan, ArmInfo's correspondent reports.
Dozens of people are taking part in the hearings. The participants are expressing their indignation, because they think that the rise in electricity tariffs will lead to growth in prices of other commodities and services as well. They consider that the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia should declare its own decision null and void.
In the meantime, the activists are skeptical about the possibility to appeal to court against the Regulator's decision, because all their previous attempts in 2013 over the rise in gas tariffs were in vain.
To recall, on 1 June the Public Services Regulatory Commission took a decision to increase the electricity tariff for the Armenian population by 10% starting from 1 August 2014. In accordance with the Regulator's decision, the day-time tariff for the population will grow to 41.85 AMD per 1 KW/h versus the current 38 AMD (up 10.1%) and the night- time tariff will rise to 31.85 AMD versus the current 28 AMD (up 13.7%).
