Artsakh is ready for mutual concessions, however, it will never make unilateral concessions, Lt.-Gen. Movses Hakobyan, Commander of the Defense Army of Artsakh, told journalists, artsakhpress.am reports.
He said that the news about the ceasefire 21 years ago was long-awaited for the Artsakh and Azerbaijani people and there were almost no violations in the first years of armistice. "Recently, however, the ceasefire has deliberately been breached. Baku is making a mistake by trying to resume the military operations. It will be enforced into peace again, and this time the armistice will be even more painful for Azerbaijan," he said.
Hakobyan pointed out that the country's leadership has repeatedly stated that it wants no resumption of war and it is ready to continue the peace talks. "We have stated that we are ready for mutual concessions, but Azerbaijan wants us to make unilateral concessions. It is unacceptable. When Baku realizes that it is also ready to make concessions, final peace will be established in the region. There are all prerequisites for that," he said.
Hakobyan said that Armenia and Artsakh are aware of the military potential of Azerbaijan. He added that Artsakh is also arming its detachments to repel the rival's attacks worthily. "We are arming our army to maintain the peace, not to start a war," he said.
