Pope Francis' statement fuels racism in Europe, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu says.
Turkey-based Vatan newspaper quotes Davutoglu as saying that the Pope's statements are not becoming to the leader of the Catholic Church. Davutoglu thinks that spiritual leaders should call for peace. "His statement fuels the racism in Europe, because it is unilateral and ungrounded", he said.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu does not keep aloof from the Genocide denial policy either. "The Pope's statement, which is out of touch with both historical facts and legal basis, is simply unacceptable," he tweeted.
To recall, Turkey has summoned its Ambassador in Vatican Mehmet Paraci for consultations, as Pope Francis called massacre of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey as Genocide.
