Today, on May 25 anti- energy rate increase protestors held a rally in front of the government in Yerevan, Armenia. The participants of the rally are demanding the international implementation of fiscal and technical audit of activities of the "Electric Networks of Armenia " CJSC.
The ArmInfo journalist reports that young members of ARF-Dashnaktsutyun and "Nikol Aghbalyan" Student Union delivered speeches reminding about their rights consolidated the Constitution of Armenia. "We are demanding that an immediate investigation be carried out. Until then we are demanding the energy rate increase to be vetoed. We are going to be consistent during the whole process. We hope the issue will be relevantly solved", said the protestors.
Young rep of "ARF-D" Ani Khachatryan has said that this rally is only one among those many still to be held. The members of the Union are determined to continue their activities until they achieve the result they are aspiring for.
The protestors then moved towards Public Services Regulatory Commission of the Republic of Armenia. Head of Commission Artur Vardanyan told them that the body would consider their demands.
CJSC Electric Networks of Armenia was founded in May of 2002 as merger of four state regional companies ('Yerevan Electric Networks, 'North Electric Networks, 'South Electric Networks and 'Central Electric Networks) distributing and selling electric energy. The company is mainly engaged in regulated distribution and sales of electric energy. Overall spread of its grid is 36 thousand km. The company has an exclusive license for distribution of electric energy within the Republic of Armenia. Power distribution is implemented at tariffs confirmed by the Public Services Regulatory Commission of RA. The company provides service to about 935.000 customers. "ENA" CJSC is a subsidiary of OJSC <RAO UES INTERNATIONAL CJSC. OJSC 'INTER RAO UES is a functioning operator of electricity exports and imports on the territory of Russia. INTER RAO UES OJSC currently heads a group of more than 20 companies based in fourteen countries. By acquiring foreign assets, the company significantly consolidates its position in commercially attractive electric power markets in Europe, the South Caucasus, the Far East and Central Asia. CJSC 'ENA is one of the biggest tax-payers in RA. The company's current debt is 250 mln USD.
