The National Security Service of Armenia has confirmed the media reports that two of the four hostages kept at the building of the Police Patrol Station in Yerevan that was seized on July 17 by an armed group calling itself "Daredevils of Sasoun" were released earlier today.
"Negotiations continue. We are discussing the release of the remaining hostages and some other issues that has become subjects of talks. We confirm that the members of the armed group voluntarily released two hostages today," the National Security Service says in a statement.
Earlier Varuzhan Avetisyan, a member of "Daredevils of Sasoun," said the decision was adopted after a meeting with Georgy Kutoyan, the head of the National Security Service of Armenia, moderated by Major General Vitaly Balasanyan, the Karabakh War Hero.
Avetisyan said an agreement was made to create a press center in the territory of the seized building.
"Afterwards, we will release Valery Osipyan, the deputy head of the Yerevan Police, and Vardan Yeghiazaryan, the deputy head of the Armenian Police, on condition that the authorities ensure free access for mass media," Avetisyan said.
To recall, the armed loyalists of the jailed oppositionist Jirayr Sefilyan seized the above police station demanding release of Sefilyan and resignation of President Serzh Sargsyan. They still keep as hostage Valery Osipyan, the deputy head of the Yerevan Police, and Vardan Yeghiazaryan, the deputy head of the Armenian Police.
