Red Orange Revolution in Ukraine has breathed life into Eastern Partnership project, Richard Giragosian, Head of the Regional Studies Center, told reporters, Wednesday.
In the Post-Vilnius period when EaP began to lose its significance, Ukraine has become a breath of fresh air for this EU project. It is very important that Georgia and Moldova that have initialed the Association Agreement with the EU will not be in isolation in the post-Soviet area after Ukraine's foreign policy attains a new quality, the analyst said.
According to him, the EU Troika, Germany-France-Poland, tried to prevent bloodshed trying to achieve snap presidential elections in December and reactivation of the Constitution of 2004 through negotiations with the Ukrainian authorities and opposition. Nevertheless, he said, the situation in Ukraine developed so rapidly that diplomatic efforts could not prevent "Red Orange Revolution."
Giragosian said that Yanukovich did not learn lessons from the Orange Revolution of 2004 heading towards his logical end. Furthermore, he said, the leadership of Ukraine has repeated all the mistakes of its predecessors and made even new ones that have led to bloodshed.
