The 31st meeting of the International Organization of La Francophonie in Yerevan resulted in the adoption of a genocide prevention resolution among four others.
Talking to reporters, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian called for combined efforts towards prevention of new genocides, stressing the OIF's special attitude to this issue in 2015 when Armenia marked the Armenian Genocide Centennial. Nalbandian said Armenia has sent the world a message about the need to prevent new genocides. Michaelle Jean, Secretary General of the Organization, in turn, said OIF shares the pain and strength of Armenia. She recalled that the OIF delegations had already visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan.
OIF Secretary General said the Memorial resembles both the pain and sufferings of the Armenian people and their strength. Michaelle Jean highlighted Armenia's exclusive role in the Francophonie family.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad of the Republic of Senegal Mankeur Ndiaye, in turn, said that over 30 countries of the Organization of La Francophonie will consolidate efforts towards genocide prevention.
The 31st Session of the OIF Ministerial Conference in Yerevan resulted in five resolutions calling to turn the Franchoponie space into a space of peace and tolerance, to prevent genocide, climatic changes, settle the problems of migrants, and involve the youth in the propaganda of the Francophonie values, as well as to transfer the chairmanship of the Organization to Madagascar.
