ArmInfo. The Georgian Defense Ministry has refuted the information about transit of Russian military equipment to Armenia via Georgia.
"The information that Russian military equipment was moving to Armenia via the Georgian territory today is untrue. That was non-military, civilian equipment," the Ministry says, noting that the Defense Ministry usually issues a permit for transit of military goods, but in this case no such permit was issued. "For many years already neither Armenia nor Russia has applied to the Defense Ministry for transit of military goods. Consequently, no permit has been issued," the source says.
Earlier, the United National Movement reported that trucks with Russian number plates were carrying cargoes resembling "Buk" systems to the Armenia border via Bolnisi district of Georgia.
Meanwhile, MP from the Georgian Dream Party and Head of the Georgian Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security Irakli Sesiashvili said that the cargo was equipment for rescue operations and it belongs to the citizens of Belarus.
The reports about transportation of military equipment have prompted public interest, because yesterday ex-defense minister of Artsakh Samvel Babayan was arrested on charge of illegal import of Igla systems. The Ohanyan-Raffi-Oskanyan bloc has already qualified his arrest as political persecution.
