ArmInfo. On October 26, Azerbaijan's Minister of Defense, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov met with the delegation led by the European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus Herbert Salber, APA reports. The sides discussed issues related to the current situation with settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Zakir Hasanov claimed, "Azerbaijani territories are under Armenian occupation, as a result of which more than a million people have been displaced." He made allegations against5 the Armenian side saying it allegedly aggravates the situation on the frontline. The minister recalled the UN Security Council's four resolutions "demanding the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from occupied territories" and blamed the Armenian authorities for not recognizing the international community's demands for many years and being interested in maintaining the current status-quo.
Salber in turn, noted that the European Union is in favor of a speedy resolution of the conflict in a peaceful way to ensure stability in the South Caucasus region and considers it as appropriate to continue the negotiations on the issue. Last week, Herbert Salber was visiting Armenia and met with the political leadership and the military command discussing bilateral issues and the Karabakh peace process.
