ArmInfo. Situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone is relatively peaceful after the April events, says OSCE MG Co-Chair, Ambassador James Warlick of the United States.
According to him, after the April tragic events that claimed many lives, the situation on the line of contact of the Karabakh-Azerbaijani troops and on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border has stabilized certainly.
Ambassador Warlick said that the summits in Vienna and Saint Petersburg achieved that the sides observe the ceasefire, though incidents still happen on the border claiming lives of soldiers. The diplomat said the OSCE MG cares for the life of everyone, and the OSCE CiO PR's reports show that the situation has calmed down relatively and the sides mostly observe the ceasefire. The ambassador hopes the sides will continue observing the ceasefire in the future too.
The recent flared up of the conflict (April 2-5) when Azerbaijan unleashed an aggression against Nagorno Karabakh was stopped with mediation of the foreign powers. Diplomatic efforts have been launched towards observation of the ceasefire and possible re-launching of the peace talks. It is noteworthy that from the very beginning of the Azerbaijani offensive the civilian infrastructures and civilian population, including children and the elderly, became intentional and indiscriminate targets. Moreover, three captive soldiers of the Nagorno-Karabakh armed forces were beheaded by Azerbaijani armed forces in ISIL style, which was subsequently celebrated in the towns and villages and publicized through social networks. Furthermore, during the exchange of bodies of the deceased between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan carried out through the mediation of the International Committee of Red Cross and the Office of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman in Office, it was registered that the bodies of deceased transferred by the Azerbaijani side had the evidences of severe torture and mutilation.
