ArmInfo. It is time for the CSTO to correct its own mistakes with respect to Armenia, Stepan Safaryan, Head of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs (AIISA), has told ArmInfo.
"I think Kazakh President Nazarbayev's behavior on the CSTO Summit day in Yerevan and his absence demonstrate his disrespect for Armenia - the country that organized the summit. Yerevan should not tolerate such a behavior any longer. I believe we should clearly tell the CSTO leadership that the behavior of one of the CSTO member states' leaders is unacceptable," the expert says.
CSTO Secretary Genetal Nikolay Bordyuzha previously said that the rotation of the secretary general and other officials of the Organization was not discussed during the CSTO Summit in Yerevan due to the absence of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev. He noted that this issue will be addressed in December with participation of all the presidents.
Safaryan stresses that following the CSTO's reluctance to support one of its member states in April 2016, the Organization should at least demonstrate the opposite now by correcting its mistakes with respect to Armenia, which is a conscientious participant in the Organization.
The CSTO member states are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. The Organization was created based on the Collective Security Treaty signed on 15 May 1992.
