ArmInfo. In fact, Russia has one option to protect its interests in the South Caucasus, but that option does not imply a sacrifice of Artsakh's territories. Arman Melikyan, the former minister of foreign affairs of NKR, independent analyst, made such statement talking to ArmInfo.
"However, to use that option, our Russian partners will need political courage and farsightedness. Let's us wait and see what they are, in fact, able to do. Judging from the latest statements by Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov, Russia acts in harmony with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu's recent statements," he said.
To recall, on October 12 Mevlut Cavusoglu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, stated at the autumn plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) that Turkey has exerted sincere efforts for peaceful settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Later, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told journalists in Yerevan Turkey might play a positive role in Nagorno- Karabakh settlement.
Arman Melikyan believes that Lavrov's statement hinted at Moscow's agreement to start the next Armenian-Turkish dialogue on normalization of relations amid cessation of Artsakh's territories. Melikyan is sure that the control of the Armenian-Turkish border by the Russian frontier guards will let Moscow regulate the parameters of the Armenian-Turkish normalization.
