ArmInfo. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has summed up the results of the CSTO Collective Security Council's summit held in Yerevan today.
The President announced at the briefing that a number of serious documents and decisions aimed at strengthening the organization were approved during the summit. The Armenian President stressed that one of the main results of the session is adoption under Armenia's chairmanship CSTO Collective Security Strategy, the development of which lasted 5 years. According to him the strategy involves priorities of organization's activities and stipulates milestones of cooperation till 2025.
According to Sargsyan members of the summit reiterated their readiness to build international relations based on non -use of force or threat of its use in solving problems and give preference to political diplomatic methods. As a result of the meeting statements on the main international issues were made considering new threats and challenges. Assessment was given to the activities of the organization as a structure ensuring security of its member countries.
During discussion of Karabakh issue the participants of the summit confirmed their adherence to the agreements reached in Vienna and Saint Petersburg on creating conditions for further prevention of escalation in the zone of conflict and reaching progress in the peace process. The members of the organization stressed that there is no alternative to peaceful settlement of the conflict within OSCE Minsk Group based on the norms and principles of the international law, provisions of the UN charter, Helsinki Act.
During the summit emphasis was laid on strengthening military component of the organization and increasing its potential. Agreement was reached on creating Crisis Management Center, joint retraining of staff, and standardization of military equipment on the territory of CSTO. A document was signed on confronting international terrorism, forming common list of terror organizations.
To note, chairmanship in CSTO was passed from Armenia to Belarus.
