ArmInfo. Lawmakers Khachatur Kokobelyan, Alexander Arzumanyan, Tevan Poghosyan and Armen Avetisyan have joined the Armenian MP, Chairman of Alliance Party Tigran Urikhanyan's initiative to change the measure of restraint against Andrias Ghukasyan.
The press office of the Alliance Party reports that Tigran Urikhanyan is going to file the petition to the Investigative Committee of Armenia. "The rest of the MPs wishing to join the initiative can sign the petition before 2 pm of September 28," the statement says.
Earlier, four Armenian lawmakers Elinar Vardanyan, Vahe Hovhannisyan, Stepan Margaryan and Zaruhi Postanjyan signed the petition.
To note, on September 24, the court of general jurisdiction of Arabkir and Kanaker-Zeytun administrative districts of Yerevan satisfied the pretrial investigation body's motion to extend the arrest of New Armenia opposition movement member Andrias Ghukasyan for 2 more months. Ghukasyan's lawyer Karen Mejlumyan says that his client is undergoing obvious political persecution.
To recall, Andrias Ghukasyan was detained on July 29 during the antigovernment demonstrations when Sasna Tsrer (Daredevils of Sassoon) armed group seized a police compound. He is charged with Article 225.1 (organization of mass unrest) of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Ghukasyan considers himself a political prisoner.
