ArmInfo. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Scientific Conference "Environment Security Issues" has kicked off in Yerevan, today on September 27.
Ambassador of Russia to Armenia Ivan Volynkin delivered a welcoming speech saying the countries are experiencing transformations in the 21st century with redistribution of the forces and influence fields. In this light, the diplomat said, the CSTO countries keep closely cooperating on pressing issues and challenges, including in the environment field. "The global environmental crisis endangers the sustainable development of humankind," Ambassador Volynkin said calling for combined efforts to settle the environmental problems.
Ambassador of Belarus to Armenia Igor Nazaruk, in turn, said the environmental problems have turned global due to the natural calamities and man-caused disasters of the recent years and threaten the security and sustainable development of states and societies.
"As international agenda changing rapidity, ecosystems are being destroyed during military actions. We observe examples of the so-called ecocide. I think the CSTO that pursues strengthening of the peace, international and regional security and stability can become one of the platforms for development and coordination of the necessary projects," Ambassador Nazaruk said.
In his words, Belarus has a compete system of planning measures to protect environment and is ready to share its experience with other countries.
Military Attache of the Kazakh Embassy in Armenia Kenzhebek Orymbayev said the current environmental problems endanger the development of humanity and new concept of man-nature relations is needed. In his words, general disarmament and settlement of the nuclear security problems will help settling the environmental security issues.
The three-day international conference is organized by the Center of Environmental-Noonspheric Surveys, National Academy of Science of Armenia, the Armenian National Office of the CSTO Institute and Rossotrudnichestvo Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation.
Scientists from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Russia and Tajikistan have presented a wide spectrum of reports on the pressing issues of environment security. The goal of the event is to draw the attention of the persons developing the strategies and making decisions in the region to the environment programs that affect the security and health of the population, food safety, the social and labor potential and other factors ensuring strong rear and finally the defense capacities of the country.
