ArmInfo. Armenia's Police have confirmed the fact of detention of civil activist Shahen Harutyunyan.
"Shahen Harutyunyan was detained from Abovyan-Isahakyan crossroad on suspicion of law infringement", press-service of Armenia's Police told ArmInfo. Earlier, Harutyunyan's friends informed about his detention.
To recall, on 17 October 2014, Shant Harutyunyan was sentenced to 6 years in jail and his son Shahen Harutyunyan - to 4 years conditionally. Shant Harutyunyan was arrested following the 5 Nov 2013 developments in Liberty Square. The clashes in Liberty Square started at 5:30 PM when the demonstrators came across a police cordon. The police say that the demonstration was not sanctioned. The demonstrators were moving to Mashtots Park, when Shant Harutyunyan tried to cross the street against the traffic lights. The police's attempt to stop him ended in a skirmish. Harutyunyan and his son were detained. Some demonstrators began blowing up bottles with gasoline. Earlier Shant Harutyunyan organized a picket in Liberty Square. He stood there with a poster saying "I am Declaring a Revolution!" A total of 38 people were detained, and many of them were arrested.
To note, this is not the first detention of Shahen. In June 2016 he was detained in Vardanants Square in Gyumri before the Mass held by the Pope. He was given the last warning, which said that if he violated the early parole rules again, he would be taken into custody.
