ArmInfo.Elections to the State Duma of the seventh convocation met democratic standards, Eduard Sharmazanov, Vice Speaker of Armenian Parliament, the Head of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Observation Group monitoring the elections to the State Duma in Saint Petersburg told ArmInfo.
According to Sharmazanov, the elections were held in competitive atmosphere. "Live broadcasting ждл ensured from all Ґаг polling stations in Saint Petersburg," he said. As for the election outcome, he called them predictable. "It is no secret that United Russia Party was among the favorites. We recognize the results of the elections. The protocols have been signed. I congratulate the United Russian Party on the victory personally and on behalf of the Republican Party of Armenia," Sharmazanov said.
With 91.8 percent of the vote from Russia's State Duma elections counted, official results show the governing Yedinaya Rossia (United Russia) received 54.16% of total votes. By preliminary data, six parties have been elected to the State Duma: four parliamentary parties, Motherland and Civil Platforms parties.
According to data of the Elections System, the Communist Party received 13.54%, the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia with 13.26%, and A Just Russia - 6.18%.
Unlike the last two parliamentary elections, only half of the seats will be selected by national party list, with the other 225 by representatives of single-mandate constituencies. The Central Election Commission said early on September 19 that turnout was about 47.5 percent of eligible voters. -m-
