BANK'S SOFT SYSTEMS INSTALLS DISTANCE BANKING SERVICE AT ADB
The Russian company Bank's Soft Systems has installed at Armenian Development Bank (ADB) the BS-Client v.3 system of distance banking services. This is a new technology designed on the basis of the original innovation version BS-Client v.2 and the results of analysis of e-banking development trends. The system consists of three sub-systems each able to work both independently and in complex - Bank-Client, Internet-Bank-Client and Telephone-Client. The Bank-Client system is being tested now to put into operation shortly.
The head of the ADB department of banking technologies and software development Tigran Voskanyan elaborates on the operation characteristics and peculiarities of the above sub-systems.
Q: Mr Voskanyan why did you installed BS-Client v.3 in your bank?
A: The dynamic and highly competitive modern banking business urges banks to expand the range of their services and to raise their quality while simultaneously reducing their cost. This first of all refers to "outdoor" services or Distance Banking Service (DBS). That's exactly why we introduced BS-Client v.3. The sub-system Classical Bank-Client serves legal entities and corporative VIP-clients. The "Thin" Internet-Bank-Client implies information and payment services of physical and legal entities. The Telephone Bank-Client sub-system provides the same services by phone and fax. The practice shows that these services are widely in use in modern banks. At a certain stage of its development a universal bank comes to try - voluntarily or under market pressure - to embrace the whole spectrum of DBS, a system that can not only settle current or long-term tasks but also suggest new types of business such as e-commerce between clients and their partners and e-settlements.
Q: How much in demand is the service?
A: We have already taken the first step - the introduction of the Bank-Client sub-system, which is being tested and will be put into service in the near future. This implies attraction of new clients who would love to have the service installed in their offices. The demand will grow day by day as we are not going to stop at what we have done and are working further to introduce Internet-Bank-Client and Telephone-Client in 2-3 months. Our goal is to create a wider spectrum of banking services most convenient and accessible for our clients. Growing clientele will in its turn allow us to reduce the costs in the future.
Q: What tariffs do you use at the current stage and can your clients pay them?
A: The monthly Bank-Client tariff is $20. This is quite normal especially as this service allows a client to settle his accounts without leaving his office. We are considering individual tariffs too. The Internet-Bank-Client tariffs will be lower and the Telephone-Client ones even free. Some clients will enjoy free services in all the systems. The service will be included in the account servicing costs. A client can use one, two or all the above systems depending on his needs.
Q: What security system do you use for Internet-Bank-Client sub-system?
A: We attach a great attention to security. Security is extremely important for both the bank and the client. We use the Russian version of the cryptographic protection system widely used in the CIS and Baltic States as well as our own means like authentication, authorization, recording, administrative measures and net screening.
Q: You have said that starting the BS-Client v.3 project last autumn in Mar 2004 ADB already launched Bank-Client. In fact it took you a very short period to adjust the system's Russian version to the Armenian conditions. How come you did it so easily and how widely is this system used by CIS banks?
A: BS-Client is a very flexible system and in introducing it we dealt only with its applied part leaving alone its kernel. This allowed us to avoid unnecessary mistakes thereby shortening the adjustment period and slashing the costs. By adjustment we also mean integration into bank accounting databases. BS-Client's unique capacities allow to use all its sub-systems in countries with their own banking systems and laws. Today the system is applied in Kazakhstan, Moldova and Baltic States. In almost all the cases the adjustment went off easily through the banks' own efforts. DBS introduction is an important part of our bank's strategy which implies the use of high tech and multi-function products envisaging both current needs and possible innovations.
